Geothermal energy has several positive properties, not least the environmental advantages of substituting coal, oil and natural gas. Similarly the combustion of biomass can be reduced, so the biomass can be used for other purposes like transportation.
Geothermal energy is local energy, so the national balance of payments is improved. The energy production takes place locally, assuring a high security of supply, and in addition the production price is more or less independent of fluctuating world market prices on different fuels.
All in all, geothermal energy can be part of a district heating supply, which is independent, secure, climate friendly and has stable prices.
